Anticipating Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite's New Characters
December 02, 2016
Everyone is excited about the announcement of Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite coming to the Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, and PC in late 2017. While Ryu, Mega Man, Iron Man, and Capcom Marvel are announced as playable characters so far, I know I have a few characters in mind on both teams that I'd like to see join the fight. Just as I did when Marvel vs Capcom 3 was announced, I've put together a brief list of Capcom and Marvel combatants that deserve a shot at glory alongside Marvel and Capcom's greatest heroes and villains.
"It's not about the size of the artillery. It's about choosing the perfect bullets. Storm, Iron Man, Reed Richards... they all know their own teams inside and out, which is critical--but limiting. I got this job because I'm good at mixing and matching. At studying everyone's strengths and weaknesses and thinking outside the boxes labeled "Avengers" and "Masters of Evil". Remind me to tell you sometime how Quicksilver could kill the Hulk if he wanted to." - Phil Coulson, SHIELD Vol. 3, #1
Capcom
Sigma
The leader of the Mega Man X Mavericks deserves a chance to shine. I want to see him brought back to his original form from the original Super NES game as a base appearance, red cape and all. His Wolverine-like claws made of electricity would make him an excellent successor for the X-Men favorite if the rumor about the emphasis on Marvel Cinematic Universe characters over the X-Men and non-MCU characters hold true. Let his later overly complicated forms and ultimate battle bodies appear as devastating super combos and ultimate attacks. Maybe his robot dog, Velguarder, could tag in as an assist character.
Rashid
Street Fighter V has drawn a lot of criticism, but most people enjoy the fanboy antics of Rashid as he travels around the world meeting new famous combatants, fighting them, and then gushing on social media about how he met Ryu and Chun-li. His moves and tactics from SFV would be right at home in another Capcom brawler and his amusing personality would add some of that all-important humor that makes the Marvel vs Capcom series so enjoyable.
Dr. Wily
After years of sending in wave after wave of Robot Masters to attempt to conquer the world, it's time for Dr. Wily to handle things himself and directly join the fight. Let's set the mad doctor up in one of his famous Wily Machines much like how Tron Bonne piloted a battle mech in Marvel vs Capcom 3. His final super combo could bring in an army of Robot Masters such as Quick Man and Drill Man to attack en mass in an overwhelming barrage of steel and pain.
Marvel
Phil Coulson
The iconic S.H.I.E.L.D. agent needs to appear in Marvel vs Capcom 4 because he won over fans in what was intended to be a small role that ballooned up into recurring appearances in the MCU films, a presence in Marvel comic books and animated programs, and the starring role in ABC's Marvels Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and, on a more personal level, I want to see him battle Nathan Spencer of Bionic Commando fame. It's a battle of the bionic limbs that the world demands (Coulson suffered the amputation of his hand in the season two finale of S.H.I.E.L.D. and now uses a bionic hand that allows him to perform all manner of intriguing and useful functions such as super strength and projecting an energy shield - try and keep up). The other characters from the show could turn up in cameos as assist characters. You just know Coulson would call in Melinda May to show up, kick ass for a few seconds, and then slip back out.
Loki
The trickster villain that you love to see in action is a natural fit for the Marvel vs Capcom experience. Picture a collection of moves built around deception and misdirection such as spawning clones and transforming himself into other characters for brief moments much like Shang Tsung's gimmick in the Mortal Kombat series. For a final super combo I'd like to see him summon the Chitauri army from The Avengers to converge on his opponent or, for a more powerful smashing conclusion, he could go full Frost Giant and start ripping things apart with icy fury.
Peggy Carter
ABC's Agent Carter met its end far too soon so I'm itching to see Peggy back in action again. Her combat skills make her a natural fit for a fighter game, but what I'm most interested in seeing is her ability to pull off those moves with style. Peggy is always in control of the situation even when it seems like she isn't, so while the other characters grunt and shout their way through matches, I imagine Peggy just getting the job done without breaking a sweat. Quick physical strikes and gunplay are her forte plus I'd also like to see her sidekick Edwin Jarvis pop in for assistance from time to time. Better yet, I really want to put her on a team with Coulson and Steve Rogers for the ultimate S.H.I.E.L.D. super squad.
