Plants Vs Zombies May Sprout Up On PS3

Plants Vs Zombies Lawn defense smash hit Plants vs Zombies from PopCap Games is popping up like a weed on all sorts of gaming platforms: PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Microsoft Xbox 360... and yet there's no sign of it on Sony's PlayStation 3.  What gives?  Relax, fans of agriculture and the undead.  The rumor mill is churning today over word that the title may be headed to the PlayStation Network.  Kombo has the scant details and connect-the-dots reasoning.

It's for PopCap's benefit that they get their software out to as many platforms as possible.  They mostly stick to a digital release formula, so publishing costs are low.  Why not get their business out in front of as many potential eyes as possible?

They aren't ignoring the PSN, they just haven't gotten there yet.  At least, that's what's to be inferred by a recent interview with a rep from PopCap.  The rep goes unnamed, but our money is on Garth Chouteau, the PR Guru for PopCap in North America.

When asked about Plants vs Zombies and its chances for a PSN release, PopCap offered this: "We haven’t made any announcements about other platforms but I can say that PopCap loves to bring our titles to as many people as possible – and that means, as many platforms as possible!"

We'll be talking with Garth Chouteau on Power Button in the not too distant future (back for another visit with us after last appearing on the final episode of the old Kombo Breaker podcast) , so maybe we can coax some information out of him.  In the meantime, as someone who only first played Plants vs Zombies about a month or so ago, I can't say I'm in the market for a PS3 version now, but if it were to include some new features unavailable on the PC, I might bite on it.  The PS3 tends to be late to the party when it comes to PopCap releases, although a solid chunk of the company's library is there: Bewjeweled, Zuma, and Peggle are all on the PlayStation Store, for instance.  It only makes sense to add the acclaimed Plants vs Zombies.  Better late than never, after all.
