Super Mario Galaxy 2 Includes Bonus DVD

Super Mario Galaxy 2Sometimes Nintendo goes above and beyond when it comes to catering to its fans.  The latest example of this behavior comes inside the upcoming Wii adventure Super Mario Galaxy 2 in which each copy of the game includes a special bonus DVD.  Wow!  What enticing treats could be on this disc?  Behind the scenes development information?  The game's cinematics rendered in high definition?  An orchestral soundtrack presented in 5.1 surround sound?  The suspense is killing me!  Tell me, Games Abyss, tell me!

We've just learned that Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be shipping with a separate DVD which will serve as a tutorial for anyone unfamiliar with the plumber's antics. The disc is set to teach new players how to use the Wiimote and Nunchuck, as well as how to interact with the various items and characters populating Mario's world.

Well, that's... um... yeah, I'm just going to go lie down over here until this headache I've suddenly developed passes.  But seriously, after the success of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, it stands to reason that casual players who enjoyed that game (and had no problems learning how to play it) may well pick up the Galaxy sequel when they see everyone's favorite smiling plumber on the box without being aware that this new title is a 3D adventure with all of the advancements and complications that come with an extra dimension of activity.  Do you remember what happened when you first tried to play Super Mario 64?  Multiply that with the impatience and confusion of the stereotypical casual gamer and suddenly the reasoning behind this pack-in starts to make a little more sense.  If this tutorial DVD helps bring casual gamers closer to the core realm with additional instructions, then who am I to complain?
