Link's Death Mask Revealed

Link mask I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Nintendo's beloved hero, Link of The Legend of Zelda franchise, is dead.  No, not the Hero of Time version of the character, nor the Hero of Wind or any of the other recent incarnations.  I'm talking about the original Link who starred in the two Legend of Zeldatitles for the Nintendo Entertainment System back in the 1980s.  New evidence sheds light on the fact that the original Link passed away following Zelda II: The Adventure of Link which, in turn, forced Nintendo to recast the role and begin focusing their narrative efforts on prequels.  What evidence is that?  Link's death mask has been unearthed after all these years.  Tiny Cartridge is trying to pass it offas a mere Halloween mask from years ago currently for sale on eBay, but I'm not buying that explanation.  This is a death mask if I've ever seen one.

Vintage Link mask. I assume this came from one of those old costumes that consisted mostly of a vinyl smock with a picture of the character on it. I like to think about some kid running around on Halloween 1988 in this thing, looking like a creepy leprechaun in a muumuu, cutting his tongue on the mask’s mouth hole when he yells “trick or treat.” Actually, if you buy this thing from eBay, maybe you should give it a gentle disinfecting.  Can we make this the new standard mask for movie bank robbers?

Rest in peace, original Link.  You are missed.
