Metal Gear Solid and God of War were great games the first time around, but they were even better when they were remade and remixed for Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes and God of War Collection. The art of the remake is under the microscope over at Games Radar where some of gaming's best do-overs are listed and briefly examined. Most of what you'd expect is here as well as some of what you wouldn't.
God of War Collection
Sometimes you don't need to remake the entire game. Just re-release an upcoming game's predecessors as an HD remix compilation and watch the sales come pouring in. The God of War games were among the best-looking on PS2 and seeing them in true HD carries their impact through to as-near-as-dammit current-gen level. Any classic game could be given this treatment - let's have some more.
There are some notable omission, of course. Super Mario 64 DS gave the original Nintendo 64 launch title a character model boost, additional playable characters, new stars to collect, and fresh levels to explore. Bionic Commando Rearmed's take on the classic Nintendo Entertainment System is practically a new game unto itself, yet retains unmistakable elements and moments from the original. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is a visual feast compared to its arcade counterpart. New titles based on fresh ideas are the lifeblood of the industry, but reaching back to make a great game modernly exquisite can be just as much fun.
