Arkham Asylum Pirates Can Run But They Can't Glide
September 09, 2009
It seems that an eager Batman: Arkham Asylum player has stumbled into trouble while playing the PC version of the game. While trying to maneuver around the Joker's poison gas trap, Cheshirec_the_cat discovered that he cannot get Batman to glide over the toxic environment. The Dark Knight falls into the poisonous cloud every time. A bug in the game, right? A glitch that Rocksteady and Eidos must fix, yes? Not at all. See, the issue here is that the PC version of the game isn't actually available through legal retail channels yet, meaning that Cheshirec_the_cat outed himself playing a pirated copy of the game on the official Eidos forums. Oops! And as it turns out, this anti-glide glitch is actually a form of copy protection. Eidos set a trap and this pirate sprang it gloriously. Here's the summary from Gamer Limit.
Eidos appears to have laid a sneaky bat-trap, for those pesky pirates to trying to enjoy Arkham Asylum without paying. Apparently the all-important Glide ability gets disabled if you aren’t running a legit version. As a pirate recently found out on the forums.

The problem you have encountered is a hook in the copy protection, to catch out people who try and download cracked versions of the game for free. It’s not a bug in the game’s code, it’s a bug in your moral code.
Outed as a pirate due to one's own stupidity. It would be funny if it weren't so pathetic. Oh, what the heck, I'll laugh anyway.
