Kids String Quintet Performs Classic Video Game Themes

Diddy and Dixie Kong Jam I envy the musically-gifted children of today because they're able to convince their conductors and program organizers to throw a little video game music into their routines from time to time.  Check out this performance from Seattle's Marrowstone in the City program as a string quintet takes us through memorable themes from The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario World, Halo, Kirby, and more.

When I was involved with the various elementary, middle, and high school music programs back in my day, we had an uphill battle to convince the directors to allow us to perform modern pop/rock music.  There was no way we could ever convince them to allow us to perform songs that were essentially "just a bunch of bastardized beeps" that were not "real music".  Now that video games are an accepted form of entertainment, the children get to break out the best beats from Hyrule and the Mushroom Kingdom.  Enjoy it, kids.  We've all earned it.
