Video game publishers are turning their attention towards digital preorder incentives more than ever these days in order to provide a cost-efficient way of rewarding players for reserving upcoming titles. Not too long ago came word of Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time's preorder campaign with its digital in-game goodies spread across multiple retailers, and now a similar deal is underway for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Kombo has the details.
- Amazon.com will feature an exclusive treasure map which will allow you to see hidden treasures throughout the game.
- Game Crazy will reward you with an exclusive currency multiplier for multiplayer online use, basically it allows players to gain currency in the game and unlock bonuses faster for a limited time against opponents.
- GameStop will have exclusive first access to the multiplayer demo and you will be able to gain the revenge attribute (which is one of the last multiplayer upgrades you can get) from the start of the multiplayer campaign. GameStop's multiplayer demo will start September 9th and run until September 29th, it will open to the public on September 30th and will close on the release date.
- [G]old weapons [from Best Buy] will be available for use in multiplayer mode, and will allow you to wield some fashion sense during the death match and plunder modes.
Note the reliance on multiplayer bonuses this time around. Golden guns are flashy, but if they don't kill opponents with a single shot (as Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64 taught us that all golden guns should do), then they really don't provide a performance boost. The early access to the multiplayer demo has no long-term value. The currency multiplayer may be useful even if it too is only active for a limited time, but I'm going to have to go with the treasure map from Amazon. As someone who usually plays games primarily for the single-player adventure, I'll take whatever kind of boost I can get when it comes to finding the hidden treasures.
