Gaming Habits Seep Into Reality
February 04, 2009
People with too much free time have been trying to legislate our favorite video games for years on the grounds that the games alter the behavior of the player in negative ways. While I've never stolen a car because a certain auto thieving game "taught" me to do so, I have noticed odd game-based thoughts creeping into my daily routine that have to be struck down before habits that are beneficial only in games break into reality. The gang over at MetaFilter is discussing this phenomenon, resulting in plenty of amusing anecdotes about playing Tetris with real objects, driving recklessly to save imaginary time, and attempting to reload real life to a previous savepoint. Read all about it in my latest article over at Kombo and learn how I broke myself this sort of thing after a game soundtrack CD nearly led me into a tragically stupid car accident once upon a time.
