Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog. That's all I really want. But I'm getting ahead of myself. 1UP.com has word that Super Smash Bros. Brawl director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed some new information about the upcoming Nintendo Wii game, particularly that he's only considering including one or two more non-Nintendo characters in the game's character roster.
Sakurai hasn't determined the official character lineup as of yet. The reveal of Solid Snake does mean they're contemplating other non-Nintendo characters, but the characters must have appeared on a Nintendo platform at some point, and they're only considering one or two more additions in this category. Additionally, while they don't want to include Japanese-specific characters since Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a worldly popular game, the amount of comments he's heard about the Fire Emblem additions makes him think otherwise. At this point, it's too early to tell how the finalized lineup will shape up, but he also doesn't want to feature only popular characters ala Mario and Link.
I know there's plenty of Nintendo also-rans when it comes to characters. How about bringing back the hero from Mach Rider? Maybe some Balloon Fight could be nice, and let's be honest - everyone wants a chance to play as the Eggplant Wizard from Kid Icarus. I think we can limit the Fire Emblem folks to just one character this time around and we definitely don't need four Pokemon. Knock that down to Pikachu and maybe one other at the most.
Oh, and one more thing. Sakurai is not so focused on online multiplayer just yet. This game simply has to be playable online. It will be a flagship title for the Wii, it will be immensely popular, and it just plain needs to have online play. Hopefully Nintendo will give the director a little nudge to get his team moving on including this functionality.
