Mario Super Show DVD Finally Coming In March
January 06, 2006
For the past year we've been watching as Shout! Factory has announced and then delayed and announced and then delayed the DVD release of 1989's animated Super Mario Bros. Super Show. While the show-within-a-show The Legend of Zelda saw release at the end of 2005, now the company has announced definitive details regarding the animated Mushroom Kingdom adventures. Twenty-four episodes of the show will be released in a four-disc set on March 28, 2006 and will include the bizarre live action segments featuring Captain Lou Albano as Mario and Danny Wells as Luigi. And if that isn't enough, check out these bonus features:
- A Brand-New Interview with Captain Lou Albano ("Mario")
- Original Art Galleries
- Storyboard-to-Screen: The Super Mario Bros. Super Show Opening Title Sequence
- And More!
It's expected that if this set sells well then the remaining twenty-eight episodes of the series (minus the Zelda episodes already in stores) could be released as early as the end of the year (barring more delays, of course). The retail price of $30 is fair enough for anyone considering a trip back to the late 1980s ($20 if you shop around a bit, like at Amazon), especially considering the caliber of guest stars who appear on the disc: Cyndi Lauper, wrestler Sgt. Slaughter, Magic Johnson, and plenty of other people who went into hiding and/or fell off the face of the planet after 1990.
