Castlevania: The Movie In The Works
November 03, 2005
Just a week or so after discussing the idea of a film based on Castlevania comes news that the idea isn't so farfetched. Next Generation has word that writer and director Paul Anderson is taking the helm for the Castlevania movie. Please, Paul, don't screw this one up. Don't try to reinvent the series to include a sassy alien or a streetwise prostitute with a heart of gold. Just give us a Belmont, maybe a Belnades, Dracula himself, and plenty of skeletons that toss bones and a bone dragon or two plus the familiar "The Beginning" and "Bloody Tears" theme tunes. That's not asking too much, right?
I'd like to see a film based on any of the original trilogy - Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, and Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse - mainly because those three games are what I think of when I picture Castlevania. I also think that Symphony of the Night would make a good film if the elements from Rondo of Blood were explained early in the story, and even Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow could make for a fun time with the conflicted character of Soma Cruz. Production is supposed to begin next year, so we'll just have to keep an eye on the film's progress and hope for the best.
