Kotaku has word that Netflix has a mild interest in offering its streaming video service to Nintendo DS owners which really seems a bit misplaced. The DS has nice enough screens for gaming, but I really don't think of it as a go-to handheld system for video content. The upcoming DSi XL may change that perception with its larger display, but I'm really stumped as to why Netflix is considering this move. Why not bring the service to Sony's PlayStation Portable and its beautiful screen? I've been enjoying Netflix on my PSP for a while now thanks to a bit of thinking outside the box. I use the PSP's Remote Play function to connect to my PlayStation 3 which, in turn, uses its media server capability to connect to my home network to access my PC where the PlayOn application is ready and willing to stream Netflix, Hulu, and a whole slew of other legal video services. This is a roundabout way to get the job done, so I'd much rather prefer a more direct solution straight from Netflix. Listening to streaming reruns of Lost while falling asleep in the night would undoubtedly be better in an official capacity.
