Sony has been pushing their new line of Minis for the Sony PlayStation Portable pretty hard as part of a bid to compete with smaller games available on Apple's iPhone and Nintendo's DSiWare, but now the company is moving ahead of the competition slightly with the next firmware update for the Sony PlayStation 3. As Joystiq reports, firmware 3.15 will allow Minis to play on the PS3 as well, meaning that you can finally take your Bloons obsession to the big screen.
PS3 is getting yet another firmware update -- this time optional -- "very soon" according to a post on the European PlayStation.Blog. The pre-Christmas update brings a feature we reported on earlier: support for PSP Minis on the PS3. Like PSone classics, a single purchase from the PlayStation Store will work on both platforms. If you've bought a Mini and want to play it on your PS3, you'll be able to access it from the Store's archived Download List.
I haven't been enticed by the Minis with the exception of the aforementioned Bloons, a game that I purchased in a moment of boredom weakness because I always liked the free-to-play Flash version available for play for web browsers. The Minis version makes a fatal change to the Bloons formula, unfortunately: completing a stage in Unlimited Darts mode no longer unlocks new levels. Boo! Or, Bloo!, as it were.
