Now that WayForward Technologies and Majesco have successfully revived A Boy and His Blob for Nintendo's Wii, where do they go from here? The game hasn't exactly burned up the sales charts (and shame on you for that), but that hasn't stopped the creative talent behind Boy and Blob from brainstorming ideas for a sequel. Speaking with Cubed3, Blob Director Sean Velasco offered up some ideas involving Princess Blobette from the original 1991 Game Boy sequel, a "Sonic & Tails" type of cooperative multiplayer mode, and making use of the Wii's motion controls.
AR: Would you ever consider including a two-player element where the second player controls the Blob, so that parents and children can play together?
SV: Wouldn't that be awesome!? This was definitely considered late in development; a mode like Sonic and Tails, where a younger player could have limited control with the blob. We didn't implement it because the Blob's AI was already so complex, but I would love to do cooperative multiplayer!
Boy/Blob multiplayer would be a blast under the right conditions. The mechanic would have to be built around teamwork. Frantic competition would completely defeat the purpose of the teaming the characters together in the first place. Then again, can you imagine the potential of tandem hugs?
