So Capcom's album of Mega Man music remixed in the old Nintendo Entertainment System style, Chiptuned Rockman, is getting rave reviews, but it's such a rare CD to acquire at this point that you probably assume that you'll never have the opportunity to hear any of it. Fear not, blue bomber fans, as YouTube has come to the rescue. People are posting tracks from the album for our sampling pleasure. Unfortunately, most of what I've heard so far just isn't very good. There's an overemphasis on annoying noise instead of memorable melody in most of the tracks, and on the whole I've been disappointed in the result. There are two tracks that I like, however, so I thought I'd share them with you here. Check out these remixed takes on the Cut Man theme from the original Mega Man and a medley of the opening theme and Snake Man themes from Mega Man 3.
I really wanted to like this album, but I guess it's just not meant to be. Still, I like the idea behind it and encourage other companies to try something similar, but I'd advise not burying the melody under excess percussive noise and warbling bleeps.
