Considering how well Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games sold in the run up to last year's Summer Olympics, it seems only natural that Sega would be working on a sequel that takes everyone's favorite residents of the Mushroom Kingdom and wherever the hell Sonic and friends are from these days (Mobius? Station Square? Aptos?) out of the sun and into the snow. Yup, here comes Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. Kombo has the news roundup and a press release.
Speaking with The Vancouver Province, whose home will host the Winter games next year, the 2010 Director of Licensing and Marketing, Dennis Kim, revealed that while he's not sure just which sports the teams will take up, he is hopeful that they'll rake in the cash as they did before.
This will probably sell as well as the last Mario/Sonic sports title, although I wonder how many of the last game's sales can be attributed to the novelty factor of two of gaming's biggest rival character franchises coming together in a single game. I reviewed the first Mario & Sonic title and held on to my copy of the game for the historical relevance, but I haven't played it since writing the review.
