Electronic Arts has finally revealed their upcoming video game based on The Simpsons. Apparently this latest game featuring the yellow family and their friends is a send-up of other contemporary video games, spoofing titles such as Katamari Damacy and Medal of Honor (rendered here as Medal of Homer). AMN has the details.
The game will feature 53 minutes of TV episode-quality cinematics but the story, which is still in beta, forms around the characters being sucked into a video game. There will be many references to other EA titles and a ton of cameos from secondary characters of the show including Kang and Kodos.
The game was running at 30 fps and looked strikingly similar to the cartoon. The Wii version will include a mini-game where Homer is in a eating contest and players must use the Wii remote as a spoon. The level that was shown at the event was called "Around the World in 80 Bits" and featured Homer eating a bunch of ethnic foods (including the Insanity Chili Pepper from the "Vision Quest" episode) and growing into a huge, Katamari-esque, ball of lard.
The game looks clever, but I find that what I really want are more of those posters featuring Simpsons characters engaged in video game puns. I mean, c'mon, Medal of Homer? How can you not love that?
