Ah, April 1. It's the one day of the year where absolutely everybody online thinks that he or she is a world class comedian. This also means that very little of what you'll see online today (and in the days ahead, unfortunately) are pranks and lies; yarns spinnin' for our supposed amusement. April Fools' Day on the Internet used to be about unobtrusive clever gags. Now it's an excuse for sites that deal in gray-market copyright-infringing content to put up a "The FBI shut us down!" message on their front page for kicks.
I do my best to stay away from the mess, but one clever gag did catch my eye. ThinkGeek.com has been coming up with gaming-related fake products for sale for years (in addition to selling real ones), and while most people would probably direct you to the Wiihelm (a head-mounted stand for the Nintendo Wii remote), I have to say that I love the idea of the 8-bit tie. It just looks so familiar and friendly. If it were a real item I do believe I would buy one.
